But it seems like they didn't even consider the idea of Bernie playing first base. Regarding Sheffield, he was trying to play first base for the first time in his career, coming off an injury that sidelined him for months, with no chance to learn the position. Bernie would have had an entire offseason plus all of spring training to get used to playing first. I think he could have done it. Ron, I agree that the Yankees don’t technically owe Bernie anything.
