Sam was the closest. Roy Face pitched in 57 games for the Pirates in 1959, all of them in relief, compiling a ridiculous record of 18-1 (he also added 10 saves).

Face's winning percentage that year of .947 is also an all-time single season record.

It was Roy Face who went 17-0 for the Pirates 1 year.

Oh, wait. I remember Roger McDowell winning a bunch in 1986... I don't know how many offhand, though, but it was somewhere in the teens...

This really is a tough one. I remember Dennis Cook had ten a few years ago for the Mets, and I think Danny Graves did too around the same time for Cinci. I'm stumped.

I know Mike Remlinger had 10 for the Braves about 6 years back, but that wasn't the record. I'm guessing 14 wins, but I don't know who did it. Probably one of the Phillies' shitty relievers that kept blowing saves but recording wins win the team came back in the bottom of the 9th. Hah.

We are talking about wins as a reliever, so it could theoretically be a pitcher who won a few games as a spot starter (which wouldn't count toward the record), and then won a whole bunch of games as a reliever (which would).

Although it just so happens that the actual record holder didn't make any starts that year...

So wait, are we talking solely about a pitcher's win total in a season in which he made ZERO starts? So no spot starting duties?
