Very true. Somehow, deep down I was hoping Kenny would sign Bartolo Colon, just to mix it up a little.

*sigh* I hate not having a good feeling before the season starts.

They may not only lack a center fielder but also a second baseman. Don't be surprised if they settle on Uribe at second. The failure to sign Hunter or Rowand has gained a lot of attention but neither of those contracts would have been good for the Sox. It should also be noted that Danks and Floyd have proven nothing and may prove to be the biggest weak spot on this team. The starting rotation is definitely weaker than it has been in the last several years.

Right, so there lies the problem. No center fielder.

Owens seems like a toss up, he was meh last year.

I think they're hoping Carlos Quentin makes a nice come back, or for Owens to blow them out of the water in Spring Training. That or that Brian Anderson resurrects from the dead.

True about Crede, though. I think it's clear (a bit obvious, now that I think about it) that they're hoping he'll rebound from season ending surgery so they can trade him for a good batch of prospects.

Crede was signed to a one year deal to avoid arbitration. He will be a free agent after this coming season. They resigned him because they figured he would be a valuable commodity to trade if he proves healthy in spring training. They did not want to let him walk without getting something in return. As of right now Kenny has said that Fields will play third or else go to the minors if they still have Crede on the roster. Swisher will play left and Owens will start in center as things stand right now. They don't seem to want to rely on Swisher as the every day center fielder.

Some teams, like the Giants, seem like they just don't have a plan. The White Sox look like they have a plan. I just don't think it's a very good one. They want to win now. They're spending money to do it. But they're spending money on the wrong guys. Linebrink? Dotel? Please.

FYI, I don't think they signed Crede this offseason. I think Crede had one more year left on his contract. And I'm pretty sure he's about to be dealt to the Giants.

Wow. That's some vitriol. There is one difference though. Oakland could never sustain a $100 million payroll. ChiSox can. So maybe they think that they can buy talent or something. Even though the free agent market seems to be getting worse and worse each year.

I see the White Sox as having been in virtually the exact same boat as the Oakland Athletics coming into this offseason. Both were teams locked into some reasonable contracts with some decent players, but both were teams which had little chance of winning anything as presently constituted. Billy Beane did the right thing, which was admit defeat and try to get on with rebuilding as soon as possible. Kenny Williams did the opposite, making the whole situation worse by emptying out the farm system to those same Oakland Athletics, so he can mark 75 win seasons until the White Sox become the San Francisco Giants East - an aged, dead-in-the-water team with no prospects and no hope for years to come.

I agree that the White Sox improved their chances in '08 this past off season. And if/when this Santana trade goes through, Minny's loss is Chicago's gain.

But here's my gripe. They're still in a division where both Cleveland and Detroit reign supreme. Unless there are some heavy injuries throughout the season, I just don't see Chicago beating those guys out for a playoff spot. And that might be fine if they weren't such a veteran team. Thome, AJ, and Dye can't play for much longer. Konerko's probably got a couple good years left in him before declining.

They emptied out their minor league system and now have one of the worst prospect pools in MLB (along with Houston, Toronto and probably NYM now). And they still (at least on paper) haven't brought together a team with a good shot at the playoffs. They have some tradable assets in the Majors but unless Kenny works some serious magic, won't get much in return. They just seem... stuck.

Hey guys. I was actually Rally for the Braves from 1998 to 2003. He was the Braves first mascot after "Chief Noc-a-homa". Later, Homer was added...the baseball headed mascot, very similar to Mr. Met.

Rally was the official mascot for the Braves until 2005 when the Braves sent him off in to mascot retirement (along with all the cartoon network characters that use to appear at games). Homer is the only mascot for the Braves now.

I am suprised he is on this list since he has not worked in two years!

Oh yeah, he wears a Braves Jersey (surprise) and has a big red fuzzy head with yellow lightning bolts tatooed on his cheeks. Not sure if he is supposed to be a "Brave" but the whole thing is most certainly dumb.
