Hola Leal...get this. In 1954, I was a player with the Los Indios Club.I made it a point to learn the Colombian culture and worked hard to learn the Castillian used. I had a great season as a pitcher. MePorto, was the writer those days for the local paper El Tiemp, even wrote some baeball stories that were translated. I stayed at the Hotel Del Caribe. The people opened their hearts to me and named me, "El Turkito Tosheff".I came back in 1956, and again with the Los Indios. The League had 4 teams..two in Barranquilla-Willard & Kola Ramon. Cartagenta had the Indios and Torrices. Loco Ruiz, was our manager and a great guy and leader. I loved my experiences there. The Park, Once de Novenbre, was nice.We had great crowds.I also gave basketball clinics there since I did spend 3 years in the NBA...Co-Rookie of the Year-1952, and an All American from Indiana University. Is this interesting...you bet. Love the Colombians and Jose Matuk, and all the baseball affectionados..........El Turkito

This is a great post Alejandro! I had seen that Renteria-Cabrera article on ESPN efore I read your post, but even not knowing the context I was already thinking, WTF is this shit? Because like you say, how is it relevant to anything? It certainly shouldn't be a "cover" story, and really it's not even news, so I refused to read it. But finding out more about Renteria and Columbian baseball in your post was really really interesting.
