Well, Paul, you’re right that the numbers indicate that the Twins are not for real. Then again, the numbers said the same thing about last season’s Diamondbacks.

I think the Twins have been lucky so far. But if Cuddyer continues his hot hitting and Liriano makes a triumphant return, that could be enough to make this team a winner right now. Though, for the record, I’m not holding my breath.

Coley, I think you’ve hit the nail on the head as far as talking Twins. But I do disagree about one major thing in that I think they’re pretenders.

They have sub-league average OBP AND SLG. And are yet scoring more runs than the average AL offense. They have a negative run differential. And as you note, their pitchers give up way too many hits. Add it all up and I’m not seeing a contender here.
