"I'm not sure when the practice ended, but not that many years ago the official scorer post was filled by local baseball writers. The (Baltimore) News American writers often played that role. You're right -- it shouldn't be done (and Philadelphia Inquirer writers never did it) but I wonder if that system still exists anywhere. Here’s an interesting update, courtesy of my dad, who says…
