Much of the articles that were written about them mentioned their September collapse in 2007 and how they needed to get over it. It wasn't exactly positive attention. And I can only assume that players don't like Reyes' style because dancing in the dugout and pointing at the sky are sort of Manny Ramirez-type behaviors without the Manny Ramirez-type numbers to back it up. So you end up with a situation where you have Yankees-type hatred without Yankees-type respect. Hatred - respect = contempt. Melissa has it right — all this attention for a team that doesn’t win. Always will, 1969. People also hate the Mets because we have to hear about them almost as much as the Yankees and the Red Sox, even though they don't win. It's the dreaded East Coast media bias hatred. Also let's not overlook the fact that people outside of New York tend to dislike all New York teams and their fans. People root for David not Goliath.
