kiner, by your logic, the Mets are perfectly fine and don't need any help, don't need Reyes, Delgado, Beltran, Maine, Perez or Putz. Because they won 3 out of 4 games in a 162 game season.

Nobody in the history of baseball has ever said that games are played on paper. But what is on paper is that history, which shows time and again that "scappy" is just a nicer way of saying "not good". Play 162 games with this Mets roster as is and you have a team that's not going to make headway in even the mediocre NL East. The Mets are in bad shape, but so far, they are getting away with it. Even crappy teams can have a good month. But crappy teams don't end up atop the division at the end of a full season.

Nick, come back from the ledge, bro. That scrappy Mets lineup took the other 3 games from the vaunted Cardinals. Good thing you don't play these games on paper.

Oh, and it also doesn't help when your manager calls a hit-and-run. With the pitcher at the plate.

How did that not work?

Nick, I was at the game last night.

When the Mets took the field in the first inning and the stadium announcer did his usual "Ladies and gentlemen, here are your 2009 New York Mets!" routine, all I could think was "No. No they aren't".

Daniel Murphy, not David. At least if they had David from the Rangers, they'd have a little pop in the lineup...

Either way, it was a sad, sad sight for us Mets fans..
