In fact, they got outscored because their offense was pretty terrible. However, the team got rid of the players who were mostly responsible for this - Balentien, Betancourt, Cedeno, Beltre, Johjima, etc. And while Fontenot and Laroche aren't huge names in the least, they probably won't give you negative offensive WAR either (I expect Fontenot to have a decent bounceback year). So to improve the offense, they don't need to bring in big names. They just need to stop giving so many ABs to terrible hitters. And it looks like in 2010, they're going to do just that. And of course, they need luck. I didn't say that they will get to 90 wins. I said they have a chance to do so. Well of course it’s true. And in light of that, isn't it a little overly optimistic to suggest the team could win 90 by adding Mike Fontenot and Adam LaRoche?
