A-Rod Trade Scenarios: Discuss

Colin Cowherd was throwing around some trade scenarios involving A-Rod on his show today. Considering A-Rod (and the rest of the Yankees) have ignited The Boss’ rage by getting themselves eliminated out of the playoffs for the fifth consecutive year, nothing seems far-fetched now.

Joe Torre seems to be the first – albeit most unlikely – victim to be taken to the cleaners (according to the NY Daily News).

But back to the A-Rod trade speculation; some of the moves may make sense.

A-Rod to the Angels? The Halos could give up Jered Weaver, Ervin Santana and young stud Dallas McPherson for A-Rod.

A-Rod to the White Sox?, Joe Crede’s up for arbitration and the Sox could decide to trade him instead of trying to resign him to another one-year contract to see if his back can hold up. Plus they can package one of their starters (Garcia) and one of their young outfield prospects along with Crede (who, by the way, had career highs in home runs in 2006).

Mike Imrem, from the Daily Herald, likes both scenarios, quoting the New York Times he made the argument for both:

Times have changed. The Sox have more money to spend, and the fabled A-Rod isn’t so fabled anymore. While New York is sick of him, I want the Sox to want him enough to pay dearly for him.

Texas still pays part of Rodriguez’s $25 million salary. The New York Times noted Saturday that A-Rod insists he won’t waive his no-trade clause but added:

“There might not be anything to it yet, but, if Scott Boras, Rodriguez’s agent, whispers that Rodriguez is unhappy, teams would call. The Los Angeles Angels and Chicago White Sox would love to add Rodriguez at $16 million a year, and both have young pitchers the Yankees would want in return.”

The Sox could be a fit. Reinsdorf is turning Comiskey Park’s press box into luxury suites. Presumably the extra revenue would help pay for a big splash like Rodriguez.

Personally, I don’t think Scott Boras, who famously feuded with Sox GM Kenny Williams in the past, will be any help in trying to convince Rodriguez to waive is no-trade clause for the South Siders. And who can forget Ozzie’s comments about A-Rod before the World Baseball Classic?

A-Rod to the Cubs? Well, as Colin Cowherd was arguing, if he plays in the North Side of Chicago, there won’t be any playoffs for him to choke in.
