Blue Jays Fans Virtually Hate on A-Rod
We all remember the incident earlier this year when Alex Rodriguez was chided for yelling at Blue Jays infielder Howie Clark who was attempting to field a pop fly at third base.
Wednesday night, it was the Blue Jays fan base who had their revenge.
Although the Jays dropped the game against the Yankees 4-1, there was a satisfying moment for those in attendance in the middle of the sixth inning. Like any other Blue Jays home affair, two random fans were picked to play a video game (I’m assuming it’s Major League Baseball 2K7 like other stadiums do) while the jumbotron at the Rogers Centre (That’s right. I went Canadian with the spelling) displayed their gaming skills. Only this time, the fans picked Alex Rodriguez to be the hitter, and promptly threw Virtua-Rod two bean balls. Apparently, Joe Torre was none too pleased and Blue Jays’ front office management is at least pretending to be conciliatory.
“It’s the first time that’s happened,” (Toronto’s VP of communications, Jay) Stenhouse said. “It’s something we probably have to look at a little closer to see what kind of safeguards we have to put in place so it doesn’t happen again.”
I’m actually surprised that it’s the “first time” someone has tried this. I used to bean Chipper Jones all the time playing All Star Baseball 2001.
