Draft Results: Go Ahead And Judge Us You Jerks
On Wednesday night, history was made. The writers of UmpBump.com banded together with eight of our readers and forged a covenant. Twelve strangers picked to live on the internets and swear an oath to each other throughout the 2008 baseball season that we will not waver, or quit, or draft Roger Clemens.
And in the end, only one of us would come out alive.
I should probably state that only 16% of the words above are true. We did conduct the first fantasy baseball draft in UmpBump’s history on Wednesday night. And no one did draft Roger Clemens. But we didn’t swear an oath or forge a covenant, and some of us weren’t actually strangers. However, we did accidentally unleash the powers of the Necronomicon. So… That’s something you should look out for.
Anyhow, our league is a 12-team Head-to-Head with 23 players per team. Our categories are Runs, HRs, RBIs, SBs, Total Bases, and OBP on offense and Wins, Saves, Ks, ERA, WHIP and K/BB for pitchers. So remember that before you go and question my decision to go with Adam Dunn in the third round, OK? It was brilliant, I say. Brilliant.
Before I go into the draft results, I should note that we were a man down to begin the night as Larry (aka croutchyoldman) couldn’t make the draft. And Scott (aka Utley’s Firm Quads) had the lamest excuse ever created to only stick around for 1/2 the draft - he claimed that he needed to catch a plane to Vegas to contract some March Madness with friends. I mean, who does he think he is? Trent Walker? Sacrilege. So just know that all of Larry’s picks and the latter half of Scott’s were selected by the computer. Here we go:
We will be updating you all every now and then on things like league standings and how many times we’re forced to hear Doug complain about how he just lost the week by one stolen base (kidding, Doug). And we the writers reserve the right to blog whenever we feel outraged by an unjust trade. Cuz… That’s just how we roll.

The thing is Doug, your team might combine for 105 HR on the season…

I can’t pick on Doug since he chose Kouz.
