Manny, Poet: The Dark Side
Manny’s poetry has lately taken a darker, more existential twist. A brief selection from the “Enough is Enough” collection:
I don’t want to talk to them
about contracts right now. So what?
I know they got me,
but enough
is enough.
I’m tired of them,
they’re tired of me.

I like the Haiku concept for Manny. But it’s supposed to be seventeen syllables. After attending last night’s near no-hitter, I offer the following:
I watched him look
And look
And look
Oh Manny!
Next season Japan?
He did his usual amusing things such as ducking into the green monster door during a pitching change, etc, but I agree with him, enough is enough. This team is built around Perdoia, Youkilis, Lester, Lowell, Ellsbury, Papelbon, etc., all of whom earn less collectively than him. Adios Manny.

Well, Tom, not all of them are haiku. But those that are, are 17 syllables. That might seem like circular reasoning. And maybe it is. The Manny would be proud.
Maybe next time he’s on a rehab stint, I’ll go with dirty limericks. “There once was a guy in Pawtucket…”
