Mota was on steroids
If you thought Mets reliever Guillermo Mota’s resurgance during the second half of this season was surprising, you probably won’t be shocked to hear that Mota was suspended today for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.
Mota, who came right out and confessed after being told he failed a drug test, will miss 50 games next season.
“I have no one to blame but myself,” Mota said. “I used extremely poor judgment and deserve to be held accountable.”
Mota is the second Mets player to be suspended for violating the substance abuse policy since the penalty was increased from 10 to 50 games. The first player was Yusaku Iriki.
Mota came back to life down the stretch for the Mets, after sucking as the Marlins closer last year and for the Indians earlier this season.
This season, with the Indians, Mota had a 6.21 ERA through 34 games. With the Mets he had a 1.00 ERA through 18 games and he continued his hot pitching in the playoffs.
Gee, I wonder when he started taking the ‘roids?
