Okajima, Okie-Dokie!

Because game time is upon us. Because great musical compositions deserve an audience. Because … well, we don’t need a reason to bring you what is, without a doubt, the most fantastic song a relief pitcher has ever chosen to accompany him as he enters a game.In case you haven’t been paying attention, Red Sox reliever Hideki Okajima recently debuted this little ditty, called Okajima Okie-Dokie.

If you haven’t already, give it a listen.
Okajima Okie-Dokie.

And you might want to check this out, too. Just because.

Coley! I’m so glad you found this. At last, I can sate my heretofore unsatiable thirst for this song, which I had previously only been able to hear at Fenway itself!

I must point out that this song was written by Okajima’s translator, who clearly can quit his day job any time he likes.

  2. Paul Moro Says:

This is incredible. I had no idea this existed. And I am so delighted that it does.

  3. Coley Says:

You can buy this song on iTunes for a buck. It’s entirely worth it, if I do say so myself. If you think I’ll ever throw another party where this song isn’t played, you’re sorely mistaken.

  4. Alejandro Says:

In case you’re wondering, here’s the link to the iTunes store where you can find the song.

    (Warning, it’ll open iTunes)

    Behold, the lyrics of genius:

    O! K! A! J! I! M! Aaaaaa!!!

    Okajima!

    Okajima! Oki-doki!
    Okajima! Oki-doki!

    Okajimaaaaaa!

    Oki-dokiiiii!

That’s some serious wabi-sabi, mono-no-aware shit going on there.

  6. Alejandro Says:

I must say, it kinda grows on you…

  7. Paul Moro Says:

Nick, you’re missing the all-important “WHOOP, WHOOP!”

And it also may be the first time that anyone has used the term “mono-no-aware” and “shit” side-by-side. So congratulations.
