Mueller retires

Here’s a little tidbit that was buried at the bottom of an AP “Baseball Notes” piece:

Former AL batting champion Bill Mueller, limited to 32 games with the Dodgers last season before undergoing knee surgery, retired and will serve as a special assistant to Los Angeles general manager Ned Colletti.

It always amazes me how quietly many players retire. Just last season, it was big news when Mueller moved from the Sox to the Dodgers. Now he retires and not only does the announcement not merit its own story, but it’s not even the lead in a “Baseball Notes” story. The man won a battlng title just a couple years ago!

I only hope that when I retire from blogging there will be a little more fanfare.
