Who Are the Ad Wizards That Came Up With That One?

Baseball marketing execs keep coming up with new ways to benignly annoy us fans.

I’m not sure if this is something that’s already been widely mocked on the interwebs so excuse me if I’m the only one who hasn’t been invited to the party but accidentally came upon it anyway, making for some really awkward conversations with those who were cool enough to be invited. Believe me, I’ve been there already.

But look at this snapshot of the NY Mets September schedule.

Yes, that’s Darth Vader sitting comfortably in the spot already occupied by the September 16th game between the Mets and Nationals. And it’s not just the Mets. I went around some other teams’ websites, and sure enough, there lies Darth on September 16th. It’s all explained by the bottom left hand corner of the above photo - it’s a promo for this Star Wars: Force Unleashed video game that’s apparently coming out.

In one respect, it’s totally harmless. I mean, it’s not as bad as that Spiderman 2 logo on all bases crap they tried a few years ago. But it’s still irrelevant enough to be a bit annoying…
