You know you’d gloat too, if he was yours.

Dreeeeaaaaam weaver I believe you can get me through the niiiii-iiiiiight.... Today I had the pleasure of watching my Red Sox come back and beat the Angels on national television. And who should deliver the game’s most clutch hits? Why, the most clutch hitter alive, David Ortiz. He hit a key homer in the bottom of the 9th and singled home the walkoff run in the 11th. And, I must add, the single in the 11th was just a wee dribbler to left. But, because every manager in the AL now thinks he can put a shift on Ortiz, bring in a lefty hurler, and call it a day, a wee dribbler was all Papi needed.  Skippers beware: no one puts Baby in the corner, and no one puts a a shift on Big Papi! He’ll go the other way! Oh yes he will!

Here’s a gallery of David’s 14 walkoff hits with the Red Sox (eight of ‘em homers, beeyatch). The best was the teaser that Fox, whose broadcasts I normally despise, ran a montage of David’s clutch hits to Christina Aguilera’s new single. Okay, I was dancing around my living room. By myself. I admit it.

And I just have to say it—even though I fear in my superstitious heart that by doing so, I will jinx everything—can’t Papi please, please, pretty please win the MVP already? If the MVP chants haven’t started up in the Fens yet, I will take matters into my own lungs at tomorrow night’s game. Oh yes I will!

T-shirts seen on sale after Sunday’s game: “VOTE PAPI: MVP 2006.”

    Yes. Yessss!

One has to believe that if the season ended today, Papi would indeed get the MVP, baises against the DH notwithstanding. His numbers are truly overwhelming at a time when no other player on a first place team has stood out much.
